Back in the Sac!

Back in Sacramento for two more weeks. That brings the total amount of time that I have spent here to 10.5 out of the last 16 weeks. This trip should not be too bad, its only two weeks and I have nothing to do afterward except a few weeks in the office directly followed by a 12 day vacation which will involve roughly 60% deer hunting.

I am still amazed by the Mexican food that i have been consuming out here. A couple of the guys out here took us to an authentic Mexican place today. No English at all in the menus, waiters or jukebox. I had to have some of the guys order for me and the food was incredible.
The sushi out here is amazing as well, Theres a place that we go to around 4 times a week and just pig out. Its kind of weird that I am a regular a hotel, sushi joint, Vietnamese joint and local watering hole that is 3000 miles from my house.

Im going to bed...

The Truck

The truck has been acquired. Its amazing. Today I went hunting all day and put all kinds of big crap in the bed including tree stands, bows, gear etc. I got to take it off road in the one area that we hunt, which until today had been off limits for me in a civic. Pictures will be following here in the not so distant future To date no deceased animals have been placed in the bed but thats all going to change here over Christmas when I have several solid days of bow hunting. Life is good.

Random Crap of the non-woot variety (part 3)

So Im at the airport in Sacramento like 4 hours early because today is supposed to be some crazy travel day, not so much. It was the fastest I have ever been through the security line and now Im playing the waiting game.

This trip was kinda cool because I had the opportunity to see some interesting things. Pyramid Lake that I wrote about earlier and I went to San Fransisco. Out of all of the interesting things that Ive gotten to do and see out here I think that the desert in Nevada is probably the coolest. I cant put my finger on it but theres something about being in the complete middle of nowhere that has a certain appeal.

By the way, has anyone ever heard of a persimmon? I came across a persimmon tree and grabbed a couple. Apparently there as common as apples out here and I have never heard of them. They sell them all over the place, definitely an odd fruit though.

Sea of Trash

Listen to this. In the Pacific ocean there is a Gyre ( the north pacific Gyre). A Gyre is a place that is not effected by ocean currents and is kind of a stagnant portion of ocean with not much going on. Anyhow, in the pacific there is this monster Gyre that is out there floating in the ocean and it is completely filled with plastic. It is a composit of human waste over the last hundred years or so. Its hard to explain the magnitude of this Gyre, here is a pic of a dead bird:

"Bottle caps and other plastic objects are visible inside the decomposed carcass of this Laysan albatross on Kure Atoll, which lies in a remote and virtually uninhabited region of the North Pacific. The bird probably mistook the plastics for food and ingested them while foraging for prey."

Pyramid Lake

I had the weekend off so I headed to Nevada. Nevada is a pretty cool place, there is a whole lot of nothing and that is the intrigue. My co-worker out here, Joe, went to grad school in Nevada so in essence I have my own tour guide. Pyramid Lake is a monster lake about an hour outside of Reno in the middle of the desert. The lake is on a huge native american reservation for the Paiute Tribe.

In the background of this picture you can see a Geyser that is continuously erupting. There are these huge Tufa formations all over, some are around 40-50 feet high and they look like coral. They are the remnants of extinct geysers, not something you see back east that often. The thing that struck me the most was the noise, there was none. We only saw one other human being the whole time we where their. Just silence and desert, Nevada is a pretty cool place. If I have to come back here to Sacramento I am definitely going to go camping at Pyramid Lake.

After an awesome day at the Lake we went to Reno and played craps all night. We determined that Reno is the exact opposite of Pyramid Lake, but hey I guess you have to stay well rounded. I think next time Ill skip the casino and spend the night at the Lake.

The Sac!!

So Im back in Sacramento again. Not as bad this time around because I have a definite return date and Im not stuck out here indefinitely. I flew out here on Sunday and got in really late. When I walked into my hotel their was a package on the table that consisted of a bag of chips, cookies, bottled water, a picture of me hammered in the lobby from my last visit and a beer. You know you have been spending to much time in a hotel when the whole staff knows your name and they have beer waiting for you in the room when you arrive.

I have also been calling allot of Toyota dealerships while I have down time in the field trying to find the perfect vehicle. Its not an easy process but Im trying to hammer down a good deal.

Tomorrow is Friday and every Friday in the field some of the Mexican guys who work with us cook up a feast. Carne Asada, tacos and the whole nine yards. They have a grill with dual propane burners and cook it up right there. Im kinda excited, this is a tradition that started after I left last time so it will be a first for me.

Im not sure what the weekend has in store for me but well see what happens.

Its official!!!!

Finally some definitive proof. Some lucky hunter in Pennsylvania has captured images of the illusive bigfoot. The story is classic. Some yahoo hunter in the Allegheny National Forest spotted a Large Furry Mammal on his trail cam. So he sends the picture to some bigfoot research organization and their response 'yep, thats a juvenile Bigfoot". Those pesky Biologists at the PA Game Commission are saying that it is a young bear with mange, but what do they know.
I cant believe that the Biologists, bear researchers and others have the audacity to say that this is anything other that Bigfoot, sure they have dedicated their lives to studying bears but clearly this picture proves them wrong.
