Yaking 101

Last week all I was really looking forward to doing some Kayak fishing on Saturday. Unfortunately due to weather and the fact that we had some people coming over on Saturday night I came to the realization that it was probably not going to happen. Well on Saturday morning after a night of cleaning I woke up and decided to throw caution to the wind and go out anyway. Char and I left pretty early and headed to the Bay. It turned out to be a gorgeous day (you meteorologists really dropped the ball on this one), and perfect for a paddle. We launched from Sandy Point State Park on the West side of the bay.

We paddled north for about an hour or so trolling some artificial lures to no avail. I abandon this technique because I dont have a fishfinder and I could not tell our depth, if their was baitfish around, what type of structure we where fishing over and if we where on the fish or not (all are critical to know of you are fishing to Stripers). We then changed our strategy paddled over to the Bay Bridge and did some bottom fishing. We caught some White Perch so we did not get totally skunked, I really should have used those Perch as bait and trolled again for some Stripers but we where running out of time and had to get home. We actually went further from the beach than I thought Char would feel comfortable going, at one point we were probably about 700 yards out. Char was trooper and is turning into one hell of a fisher woman.

I had planned on going out again today but I have the worst sun burn on both my legs that Ive ever had, I literally even walk. Mental note: always use sunscreen.

Update

Good afternoon loyal blog readers. Its been a while since my last update and I thought that I would fill you in on the latest goings on. Two weeks ago Char and I took off on Friday and drove down to the Outer Banks, NC. It was great, we had beautiful weather and had a blast. I got to drive the truck on the beach (which I have been looking forward to), do a ton of fishing and get some much needed R and R. Unfortunately the fish did not cooperate and we caught no fish (char and I probably put in a combined 20 man hours of fishing), it is a bad time of year to fish there b/c its to cold for the warm water fish and to warm for the cold water fish. It was a great weekend not a single morsel of food was consumed that did not at one time breathe under water.

So those of you whom know me know that I love a good big purchase, so the other day I bought a 12' Heritage redfish fishing kayak. Its an awesome platform from which to fish. Now let me remind you that I just bought a brand new kayak about 3 weeks ago and I had not even ever had it in the water and I bought another one. The one that I got got a few weeks ago has now been bequeathed to Char so we both have some awesome boats.

So we took the yaks out on the Chesapeake Bay this weekend and it was awesome, we paddled for about four hours and had a blast. We paddled through some little coves in the middle of nowhere and saw bald eagles, deer and fish. It was a good time and I cant wait it go back out. I am all into Kayak Fishing right now, Im on all kinds of forums and trying to master the basics so I can slam on some fish here in the future. I just have to build up the balls to kayak out in the middle of the Chesapeake (which is about six miles long where we go) and get my line in the water.

Thats all thats new for now, If anything interesting happens Ill be sure to post it up....

Bag Of Crap #2....

I woke up at 1am today to check the woot to find that they had a bogus april fools day woot-off going on. I stayed up until 3:45 and missed the first Bag of Crap that was offered. I later made up for it by scoring 3 BOC's at work in the second round. Im pretty lucky b/c they only have sold 3000 thus far. Now the best part begins, the anticipation of getting the Package.
